Cosmetic Dentistry

You may have heard the term "cosmetic dentistry" and wondered exactly what that term means. As a restorative dentist, our doctors focus not only on restoring and replacing natural teeth, but also on giving our patients beautiful smiles. As such, cosmetic considerations are a very important part in our practice.
Some patients have been dissatisfied with their smile for years, and they come to us for a "dental makeover." Other patients, however, have more subtle concerns, and these are also addressed.
To determine your level of satisfaction with your smile, take a close look at your teeth in a mirror. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What concerns do I have about the appearance of my teeth or smile?

  • What concerns do I have about the whiteness/lack of whiteness of one or more of my teeth?

  • What concerns do I have about the position, angle, or shape of one or more of my teeth?

  • What would I like to change about my teeth?

  • Do I have old fillings or other dental treatment that is no longer satisfactory to me?

If you answered "yes" to one or more of these questions, then please bring these concerns to our attention. We will listen to your concerns and advise you of your options so you can make an informed decision!

Batter Up!

Summer is in full swing and with that comes baseball games, the swimming pool and trampoline fun! At least once a year it seems, we handle an emergency at GFD that involves avulsed or knocked out teeth. Do you know what to do in such an event?
If a tooth comes out with the root intact, it is important to get the tooth back in the socket as soon as possible. It only goes in one way, so have the patient or a relative try to guide it back into position and hold it there. This is especially important if a trip to the ER is necessary for stitches or x-rays because after an hour, a clot will form at the base of the socket preventing us from seating the tooth all the way. Call us imediately to meet you at the office to help stabilize the tooth. This tooth may still discolor and eventually need to come out but if stabilized, it will help preserve the tissue and bone and allow you more time to make important treatment decisions.
Finally, if participating in a sporting event, it's important to wear protection such as a face mask or mouth guard like the ones GFD is fabricationg for the Milton High School football team!

Have a Great summer and keep your teeth in your head!

Cosmetic Dentists

Drs. Jill and Mike Golsen have the combined experience of 32 years, working cooperatively to help patients achieve the smiles of their dreams. The Golsens use their team approach to focus on patients who realize that beautiful smiles can help change their lives.
The Golsens believe that the making of a more beautiful smile doesn’t necessarily require veneers on every tooth or end once braces are removed. To help satisfy patients who are unhappy with the color, shape and size of their teeth, the Golsen team approaches each case with a personalized smile design, which begins with a comprehensive examination and diagnosis with Dr. Mike Golsen, a second-generation dentist who loves the profession of dentistry. He spends at least 60 minutes listening and gathering data pertinent to each patient’s wants and needs. Dr. Mike Golsen feels that one of the most important aspects of cosmetic dental care is a sound relationship based on communication. Additionally, he feels that listening to what patients want and educating them subsequently help yield realistic expectations. Shortly thereafter, carefully crafted options are presented to patients, who then undergo the skillful care of Dr. Jill Golsen, also a second generation dentist, recognized among her peers and in the community for her smile designs and clinical skills. She personally performs all smile designs and has been trained to perform advanced up-to-date procedures, incorporating the least amount of treatment needed to garner desired results. With the goal of providing undetectable dentistry and incorporating satellite television, virtual movie glasses, wireless headsets, aroma therapy and comfortable chairs into its patient-oriented philosophy, the Golsen team strives to offer life-changing results and complete satisfaction. More specifically, the doctors feel that the advent of DURAthin®, or prepless, veneers enables them to treat younger patients without having to remove tooth structure or harm the tooth. Treating entire generations of families, Drs. Mike and Jill Golsen help enhance smiles and raise self-esteems with each procedure they perform.
